It was a breezy summer morning when Claudia and Larry sat down with me for our porch chat. Claudia points out that the porch is facing east, just as their new porch in Heartwood Commons will be. That means plenty of afternoon shade. Their screened in porch is appointed with a beautiful large dining table (made by Larry) and colorful Adirondack chairs. It is here where Larry can escape mosquitos and enjoy the view of the koi pond, fountain and stream. Claudia declares that the porch is her "favorite room in the house."

The couple sit together and enjoy a laugh while we admire the yard full of native plants that attract pollinators. Claudia explains that none of the landscaping was present when they moved into this home. They are already planning what they will plant at Heartwood Commons (native plants, of course). They also maintain a small vegetable and herb patch. An accomplished DIYer Larry has constructed a garden shed. He also assists Claudia in yard maintenance. An accomplished basket weaver, Claudia demonstrates as she works on a project which will be a lampshade for her dressing table. On display is a previous project, a decorative lamp she made by covering a bottle with basketry and inserting a string of lights. It is obvious that this couple will bring many talents to our Heartwood Commons Community and what fun we will have being neighbors!
